Enhancing table tennis's popularity in Da Nang

The 2023 Da Nang Open Table Tennis Tournament for for Teams and Doubles kicked off at the Phan Chau Trinh Gymnasium on Friday, December 15. Hosted by the Da Nang Table Tennis Federation, the event promises excitement and fun for every one, and it is expected to attract a large number of spectators. The tournament plays a key role in making table tennis more popular in Da Nang.

This year’s tournament attracted the participation of 150 players from 26 table tennis clubs in the city and other parts of country like Quang Nam, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, and Nghe An. Included were Thien Phuc Sport, Hai Chau Cultural and Sports Centre, Phuc Han Dental, Joha, Da Phuoc, CKC, Anh Em, Thanh Khe Dong, Song Lam, Sona PingPong, Weekend, Hoa Phat, 3HT, Health Departments, Huy Tuan, Team Funny, Lien Chieu, Oriental, Bang Huu, Sakura, Binh Thuan, Phan Chau Trinh, Quang Thanh, La Hong Phong, Thu Sports and Solidarity.

Players who come from table tennis clubs in Da Nang and other parts of the country are battling it out in four categories: Team AB and Doubles CD while those who come from table tennis clubs within Da Nang are competing in Team EF and Doubles EF categories. At the end of the tournament, the organizers will give out prizes for the best players in each category.

The tournament ensures professional quality and high competitiveness with the participation of exceptional players from Da Nang and other Vietnamese localities.

Huynh Ngoc Phuong, a player from Thu Sport Club, shared: “I've been practicing and competing in table tennis for over 5 years. In our efforts to bring home medals from this year’s tournament, I and my teammates have trained for two months prior to the tournament. This is the second time I have competed in such a tournament. I hope to try my best to contribute to the success of my club at the tournament.”

To ‘fan the flames’ of enthusiasm for table tennis, the Da Nang Table Tennis Federation has frequently opened table tennis tournaments for players inside and outside the city.

The 2023 Da Nang Open Table Tennis Tournament for for Teams and Doubles is the third largest of its kind in the city in this year.

Previously, the Table Tennis Tournaments for Da Nang’s Clubs and for children and teens had been organized successfully in the city, and impressed spectators with thrilling matches.

Mr. Le Minh Hung, the Chairman of the Da Nang Table Tennis Federation said that the 2023 Da Nang Open Table Tennis Tournament for for Teams and Doubles will run until Sunday, December 17.

According to the organizers, the tournament is expected to create a wholesome and beneficial environment where clubs and teams from inside and outside the city can compete, interact, and learn to enhance their professional skills.

As a result, it fosters an environment that enhances the proclivity for physical activity within the broader community. The past few years have witnessed a significant increase in cultural engagement, fitness regimens, and sports participations among local residents. Specifically, table tennis has evidenced a remarkable uptick in public interest, leading to the establishment of clubs in local agencies and units.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Thao, the Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, remarked that the physical infrastructure at the Phan Chau Trinh Gymnasium ensures the success of the tournament, thereby contributing to increasing the polarity of table tennis in the city.

Currently, table tennis is one of the sports attracting and spreading widely across the city. Numerous training and competition venues have been invested in and built by local units, equipped with modern infrastructure to meet the recreational needs of the public.

The city has recently inaugurated the Sports complex, which includes a table tennis area ensuring organization of large-scale tournaments. Besides, the promotion of socialization in organizing tournaments by local units and the city provides a solid foundation for promoting the development of table tennis, and the sports movement as a whole, in the city.
