Perfecting grassroots cultural facilities

The Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports reported that nearly 80% of the Cultural and Sports Centers at district level in the city is now complete. Across the city's wards and villages, there are 40 cultural houses, 41 sports complexes/stadiums, 16 entertainment areas, and 33 parks and stroll gardens.

Notably, there are 119 national standard cultural houses and sports facilities across 113 villages of Hoa Vang District. These venues boast solid construction, and high-quality facilities and equipment.

In recent times, cultural and sports centers at district, ward, and village levels have successfully hosted professional and on-site activities.

Notably, skill classes and club activities are regularly organized, gradually meeting the demands and keeping up with the changing preferences of society. In addition, swimming pools at 5 out of 7 cultural and sports centers at the district level are being used effectively, drawing large numbers of students and locals to participate in training and swimming. Therefore, these facilities meet the local population's demand for leisure, entertainment, and the training needs of local units and residents.

In 2023, districts of Da Nang continued to implement a project to developing a system of cultural and sports facilities in the city until 2025.

Notably, Hai Chau District is constructing, and renovating 7 projects at a total cost of over VND 5.2 billion while Cam Le District is investing in the Hoa Xuan Cultural and Sports Center (phase 2) with nearly VND 1.2 billion, and expanding a community house in the residential area No.13 in Hoa Tho Dong Ward at a total cost of over VND 1 billion. Meanwhile, Son Tra District is choosing suitable sites and allocating funds to perfect its cultural and sports facilities at ward level.

Notably, Son Tra District is urgently completing the construction of an Art Exhibit House, and is planning to build a Vietnamese bamboo exhibition house located in the designated theme park in conjunction with the District Administration Center.

The Deputy Chairman of the Son Tra District People's Committee, Nguyen Hoang Viet, shared, "Our district's idea is for most of the park to be covered with greenery while the construction density is only about 2-3%, including the construction of a Vietnamese bamboo exhibition house. After we have finished a plan for the Vietnamese bamboo exhibition house, a design contest will open to find the best architectural ideas for this project after getting approval from the municipal government.”

Investing in city-level cultural facilities

In recent years, city-level cultural facilities have undergone renovations and upgrades, partially meeting the demand for cultural enjoyment from locals and tourists. Historical and cultural relics in the city have also undergone restorations and repairs, satisfying the cultural and spiritual needs of local people.

Public facilities such as the March 29 Park, Thanh Nien (Youth) Park, East Sea Park are among the city-level parks. In late July, 2023, the March 29 Park underwent a renovation at a total cost of over VND 673 billion which was funded by the city’s budget, receiving enthusiastic support from local people.

Recently, the city has also announced domestic and foreign participants in a design contest for a square and a museum along the axis of the city stretching from the municipal Administrative Center, Bach Dang Street, Tran Phu street, and covering a number of relevant administrative offices. Among them, the planned square covers an area of over 16ha with a total estimated construction cost of over VND 1,000 billion. This square is expected to be a historical and cultural site to mark the imprint of Da Nang's people who were pioneers in the country in the resistance wars against foreign invaders while severing as place for promoting the city’s historical and cultural heritage to the younger generation.

According to the Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports, Pham Tan Xu, in the coming times, the city will focus on investing in the municipal Culture and Movie Center, upgrading the Children's Cultural House and the municipal Labour Cultural House, restoring the Dien Hai Citadel (Phase 2), as well as expanding the Phuoc Ninh Cemetery, and other cultural sites across the city. Specially, special attention will be paid to calling for investment in such projects as the city's Grand Theater, a Painting Museum called "the Battle 1858-1860", and the Da Nang Film Studio.
