In 2024, sports activities in the city promise to be more exciting and attractive when many national championships are scheduled to be held.

Da Nang is one of the localities chosen by the Department of Physical Education and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to consecutively host national sports tournaments in recent years, with an average of more than 10 tournaments per year.

Thanks to its advantages of being a coastal tourism city, Da Nang is an ideal place to organise a number of beach sports such as beach soccer, beach volleyball, beach handball, SUP and sailing.

In 2023, the above-mentioned tournaments took place successfully, leaving many impressions on local people and athletes.

In particular, the National Youth Sailing Championship and Stand Up Paddling (SUP) Tournament for Best Rowers 2023 attracted a large number of male and female rowers from Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang.

In the Sailing tournament, participants competed in men's and women's events in Optimist boats (male and female competitions), laser boats, and 470 boats. In the SUP tournament, athletes competed in men's and women's events at distances of 200m; 1,000m; 1,500m; 2,000m; and 6,000m.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Duong, Vice President and General Secretary of the Viet Nam Canoeing, Rowing and Sailing Federation (VCRSF), said that national championships are organised annually by VCRSF and localities.

In particular, Da Nang is prioritised hosting large-scale tournaments with a large number of participants because of its long, beautiful beach and full facilities.

Tournaments held in Da Nang are dramatic and attractive when athletes have favourable conditions to practice and compete.

Hosting many annual beach sports tournaments is part of the city's sports development plan.

In 2019, the municipal People's Committee issued a project to establish a marine sports club and a plan to develop marine sports in Da Nang. Accordingly, Da Nang maintains and develops beachsports, with a focus on developing Olympic sports and sports listed in the competition programme of the National Sports Games and the Asian Beach Games. Da Nang strives to rank first in the country in beach sports competition, and become the leading city of beach sports events in Viet Nam.

In addition to beach sports, 2023 was a busy year when Da Nang hosted many national-level sports tournaments such as swimming, diving, basketball, volleyball, 7-a-side football, dance sports, bowling, taekwondo, Vovinam and badminton.

These tournaments were well prepared in terms of facilities, equipment and tools. Professional organisation experience is one of the main factors that bring prestige to Da Nang.

According to Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Trong Thao, the city’s good facilities, effective coordination and successful organisation were highly appreciated by participating units, leaving a good impression on participating delegations of athletes and coaches across the country and confirming that Da Nang was one of the prestigious and ideal locations to host annual national tournaments.

In 2024, Da Nang continues to host national-level tournaments such as swimming, diving, football, handball, basketball, SUP and Sailing.

Deputy Director Thao remarked the host of many sports tournaments will significantly contribute to promoting the development of the fitness and sports movement in the city, as well as provide a good opportunity for the city to advertise its beautiful image, and friendly and hospitable people, to domestic and international friends.
