As many as 80 athletes from districts across Da Nang competed in the municipal-level Petanque Championship 2024 on Saturday.

Organised by the Department of Culture and Sports, the sporting event provides a playground for athletes to exchange experiences, thereby contributing to promoting the development of the petanque movement, and the physical training and sports movement in the city as a whole.

Through the tournament, the best athletes will be selected for the city's petanque team which will compete in national championships.

Under the tournament’s rules, contestants competed in 6 events, including: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, men's triples, and women's triples.

In the end, the organisers gave Certificates of Merit and medals to prize winners, and outstanding teams.

According to Director of the city’s Sports and Fitness Centre Tran Cong Tu, Petanque is a sport with simple rules, easy to play, and the investment costs of the xourts, equipment and training tools is not large. From a strange sport, up to now, petanque has become a popular sport in the city as many petanque clubs and teams have been established citywide.

He added that, 8 petanque courts are now built at the taekwondo gymnasiums, thereby meeting the needs of training, competition and entertainment for people from all walks of life.
