Ensuring quality and scale of key cultural and sports events in 2024

Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Le Trung Chinh chaired a meeting on Monday to review the organisation of the 2nd Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF II), and the 13th ASEAN Schools Games 2024.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Chinh acknowledged and highly appreciated the coordination, initiative, and preparation efforts of relevant units in organising the two forthcoming events.

He emphasised that these were large-scale cultural and sports events with many side activities which garnered great attention by the city leaders.

He, therefore, stressed the need for departments, branches and localities to proactively ensure political security, social order and safety, environment, prices, food hygiene and safety according to the proposed plan, considering these as key factors to the success of the events, leaving a good impression in the hearts of guests, residents, and tourists.

He affirmed that the city will always create all conditions for units to carry out their assigned tasks, thereby ensuring quality and meeting the needs of people and tourists.

According to a report released by the Department of Culture and Sports at the meeting, DANAFF II themed ‘Asia's Bridge’ will take place from July 2 - 6 in the city with film categories of Asian Film, Vietnamese Film, and 'Today's Vietnamese Cinema' progarmme.

He informed that the organisers have selected foreign films, purchased copyrights and translated them. It is expected that the participating films will be finalised on May 20 and the films selected for DANAFF II will be announced in June.

Among them, there are four documentaries about Da Nang, called "Mrs. Bua's Mat" by director Duong Mong Thu; "The Mother" by the author group consisting of Doan Hong Le, Nguyen Tran Huy and Dang Tien Nhut; "Children Now" by director Hoang Tung; and "Da Nang people in the Independence Palace" by Quoc Phon and Thoai Nguyen.

It is expected that the films will be screened at the Le Do, Galaxy and CGV theaters, and on Nhu Nguyet Street (July 3 and 4) and the public park in front of Lien Chieu District Administrative Center (July 7).

Meanwhile, the 13th ASEAN School Games is slated to be held in Da Nang from May 31 - June 9.

Sports delegations from ten countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar and Viet Nam, are expected to attend the games.

Participating athletes will compete in six sports, namely athletics, swimming, basketball, badminton, Pencak Silat, and Vovinam. These are popular sports among students in schools in Viet Nam and Southeast Asian countries.

At the end of the sports event, organisers will award 107 sets of medals to outstanding athletes in each sport, and give prize to the entire teams.

According to the plan, the competitions will take place at 6 locations including the Tien Son Sports Arena, the Son Tra District-based Cultural and Sports Centre, the Da Nang University’s Sports Centre, the Hoa Xuan athletics stadium, the martial arts gym, and the city’s swimming and diving pool.

Currently, the organisers have checked all facilities and equipment according to the list of each exam subject, giving priority to making the most of usable equipment and facilities and ensure professional requirements for the events.
