The golf movement in Da Nang has spread widely, attracting many golfers in recent years. This is the basis for the city to select talents for larger-scale golf tournaments.

The Da Nang men's and women's golf teams recently competed in the Golf Association Championship for Ping Cup 2024 in the Central and Central Highlands regions.

This year’s tournament attracted 11 golf associations in Nghe An, Quang Ngai, Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Binh, Gia Lai, Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), Binh Dinh, Kon Tum, Thua Thien Hue and Da Nang.

Da Nang’s golfers competed in the tournament with strong determination and great efforts. With a comeback in the last minutes of the men's event, the Da Nang men's golf team finished in the second place with 9.5 points.

Meanwhile, in the women's event, Da Nang, Quang Binh, and Khanh Hoa all scored 5 points after tense competitions, so they had to enter a 9-hole play-off match. As a result, the Da Nang women's golf team took the second prize.

This is the second time that Da Nang’s male and female golf teams have been the runner-ups at the tournament. Previously, both teams were crowned champions at the 2022 Golf Association Championship.

Mr. Mai Minh Vuong, Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Da Nang Golf Association, said that by winning two second prizes at the Golf Association Championship for Ping Cup 2024 in the Central and Central Highlands regions, the Da Nang golf team earned two tickets to compete in the 2025 National Golf Association Championship for both men and women.

The national tournament will provide the good opportunity for Da Nang golfers to meet and exchange with strong rivals nationwide. Therefore, the local male and female teams are striving to train hard, aiming for the best results at the forthcoming tournament, thereby creating momentum for the golf movement to develop even more strongly.

In recent years, the golf movement in the city has spread widely across the city. This is a sport suitable for many ages.

Mr. Truong Van Phat, a resident of Hai Chau 1 Ward, Hai Chau District, said "I play many kinds of sports, of which golf is my most passionate sport. Playing golf helps me improve my health, increase communication and connect with friends. In addition to the increasing number of golf courses in the city, recent years have witnesses a surge in the demand for learning golf among local people".

According to Mr. Mai Minh Vuong, there are currently about 2,000 golfers in the city. Of which, 1,000 are members of the Da Nang Golf Association, and the rest are tourists staying in the city and independent golfers. Athletes regularly practice at golf courses such as DNC, Military Zone 5, and Da Phuoc.

Every year, the Da Nang Golf Association organises 80 events attracting the participation of 2,000 golfers. Among them, four large-scale golf tournaments are the Han River Golf Tournament, the Da Nang Golf Clubs Championship, the Golf Tournament for businesspeople, and the Tet Golf Tournament for the Community.

Recently, nearly 300 professional and amateur golfers at both home and abroad have competed in the Han River Golf Tournament for HATOCO Cup 2024.

In addition, the city annually organises the BRG Open Golf Championship Da Nang.

The BRG Open Golf Championship Da Nang 2024, a tournament of the Asian Development Tour in Viet Nam, is scheduled to take place at the Legend Da Nang Golf Resort from August 29 - 31, attracting 144 professional golfers at both home and abroad.

According to Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Trong Thao, Da Nang has many potentials and advantages to develop the golf movement. In particular, golf courses are invested with modern equipment. The city encourages localities to create healthy and beneficial playgrounds for golf lovers.

Apart from improving the physical strength of the people, the golf movement in the city contributes to promoting the development of tourism activities in the city. Golfers not only go to the courses to practice and compete, but also relax and visit local tourist spots and landscapes.
