The Vietnamese Wushu team recently had a successful competition at the 4th World Taijiquan Championships in 2024 recently held in Singapore. The event featured participants from 32 countries and territories around the world.

After intense competition, the Vietnamese Wushu team finished 4th overall with 4 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze medals. Contributing to this success, Da Nang athlete Pham Nguyen Hoai Nam earned 2 bronze medals in the Chen-style Tai Chi and Chen-style Tai Chi Sword events. These are two specialties that Nam has pursued for many years.

Sharing his feelings about winning medals at a world-class competition, Hoai Nam said "This is a memorable milestone in my professional sports career. When I was selected to participate in the 2024 World Tai Chi Championship, I was very excited and trained diligently, following a strict nutrition plan. I adhered to the strategies set by my coach during the competition. The world championship featured many excellent athletes from countries like China, Singapore, and South Korea, making it highly competitive. Winning 2 bronze medals motivates me to continue striving for Da Nang sports".

Pham Nguyen Hoai Nam's achievements mark a step forward for Da Nang Wushu on the world stage. Born in 2002, Nam is one of the exceptional talents on the Da Nang Wushu team. In 2017, coach Vo Thanh Long discovered his potential and brought him into the city's Wushu team for training. With natural talent and diligent practice, Nam quickly mastered the necessary techniques for competition. Two years later, he was given the opportunity to compete in national Wushu tournaments. Throughout his career, he won a gold medal at the 2022 National Sports Games, a gold medal at the 2023 National Wushu Championship, and numerous gold medals at youth championships.

"The coaches at the Da Nang Athlete Training Centre have always paid attention and provided the best conditions for me to develop my talent. Therefore, at every competition, I remind myself to give my all to bring home valuable medals for Da Nang sports. After returning from Singapore, I resumed my training routine, aiming for the 2024 National Strong Teams Wushu Championship in Gia Lai Province this October. My goal is to achieve the best possible result," Nam said.

The opportunity to participate in various national championships helps local athletes gain valuable experience and improve their skills, positioning Wushu as one of the strengths of Da Nang sports. In addition to the national championship for strong teams, the Da Nang Wushu team competes annually in the National Youth Wushu Championship and the National Wushu Championship. In 2024, Da Nang Wushu team made its mark by winning 1 silver and 1 bronze medal at the youth championship in Thanh Hoa and 1 gold medal at the national championship in Quang Ngai.

Coach Vo Thanh Long of the Da Nang Wushu team shared that, besides Pham Nguyen Hoai Nam, the team has two young athletes who have been called up to the national team, Le Van Hoa and Truong To Huy. These athletes are under 18 years old and have great potential to contribute to Da Nang sports in the future.

Furthermore, the city's Wushu team members have regular training opportunities at the Da Nang National Sports Training Centre. This offers them a chance to interact with national team athletes and maximise their abilities. Currently, the Da Nang Wushu team is training twice a day in preparation for the 2024 National Strong Teams Championship. This is an important competition this year, and the team will send its best athletes to compete for medals. In addition to technical training, the team is focused on improving physical fitness. Hopefully, the recent achievements will boost the athletes' confidence and help them perform at their best in upcoming competitions.
