The programme brought interesting experiences for more than 200 international students from 24 countries to better understand the culture as well as feel the warm and traditional Tet atmosphere of Viet Nam.

At the programme, many international students expressed their excitement and delight when experiencing the atmosphere of Vietnamese Tet for the first time.

Karel, a student from the Czech Republic who is studying Vietnamese language at the university, said "I have been studying in Viet Nam for half a year and this is the first time I have participated in a Vietnamese Tet experience programme. It is really fun and I love everything here when I learn how to write calligraphy, wrap ‘banh chung’ and receive lucky money. Vietnamese Tet is really special and I feel very lucky to experience it".

Similarly, Dasoon from Taiwan expressed "I have studied Vietnamese at the University of Education and Science for 2 months. The event is an opportunity for me to practice the language and learn more about Vietnamese culture. This is also the first time I have written calligraphy and it feels quite strange, but it is a very interesting experience. Tet in Viet Nam is very warm and happy, I really like this atmosphere".

Although they have only been in Viet Nam for more than a week and do not know much Vietnamese, the girls from the Udon Thani Rajabhat University, Thailand, have been also very excited to participate in the activities of the programme “Experience Vietnamese Tet”. The students chose to wear traditional Vietnamese ‘Ao dai’ and were very happy when they won third prize in the contest of wrapping ‘banh chung’ and ‘banh tet’.

Mookky, one of the students from the Udon Thani Rajabhat University shared “Wearing ‘Ao Dai’ is really beautiful and I feel like I am immersing myself in the Vietnamese Tet culture. Wrapping ‘banh chung’ and ‘banh tet’ is quite difficult but very fun and interesting. This is an experience that I will never forget”.

The programme “Experience Vietnamese Tet” not only helps international students better understand the traditional customs of the Vietnamese people but also creates opportunities for exchange and connection between students from many different countries. This is an opportunity for them to not only learn but also save memorable memories during their time studying in Da Nang.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Hieu emphasised that Tet is an occasion to show love and community solidarity. “We understand that for many international students, this is the first time they celebrate Tet away from their families and homeland. But we hope that, they will feel the warmth and sincere affection from teachers, friends and the Vietnamese student community whilst studying at the university”.

The University of Education and Science now has more than 350 international students and trainees studying. It is the member school with the largest number of international students in the University of Da Nang.

The programme “Experiencing Vietnamese Tet” is also one of the activities regularly organised by the university to create a friendly and integrated learning environment where international students not only learn knowledge but also have the opportunity to experience Vietnamese culture and customs to the fullest.
