The National 25m-pool Swimming Championship is the first tournament in the year under the competition system of the Viet Nam Aquatic Sports Association. This annual tournament intends to evaluate the training of athletes in localities and sectors, thereby selecting and training athletes for the national team to participate in regional and international competitions. This is also an activity to mark the 79th anniversary of Viet Nam Sports Day (March 27, 1946 - March 27, 2025).

This year’s tournament will see the participation of more than 250 athletes from units and localities across the country such as An Giang, Ben Tre, Can Tho, Da Nang, Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Long An, Phu Tho, Military, Quang Binh, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Long, Hue, Binh Thuan, Hai Duong, Nghe An, and Thai Binh. They will compete for 45 sets of medals.

The city’s outstanding swimmers namely Hoang Quy Phuoc, Nguyen Huu Kim Son, Nguyen Quoc Khai Hoan, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc, Hoang Van Hai, Nguyen Tuan Lam and Nguyen Viet Tuong will compete in the tournament. The local swimming team targets to earn four gold medals, and rank in the top of the tournament.

According to experts, this year's competition will witness the participation of top swimmers from all over the country such as Vo Thi My Tien (Long An Province), Pham Thi Van (Thanh Hoa Province), and Nguyen Diep Phuong Tram, Tran Duy Khoi and Luong Jeremie (Ho Chi Minh City).

Additionally, overseas Vietnamese swimmer Luong Jeremie is a notable name. At the National 25m-pool Swimming Championship 2024 held in Da Nang, Luong Jeremie surpassed Hoang Quy Phuoc to win the gold medal in the men's 100m freestyle in a time of 50.43 secs), and the gold medal in the men's 50m freestyle (23.27 secs), contributing greatly to the overall first place of the Ho Chi Minh City swimming team.

To compete for the gold medal, the Da Nang swimming team is training hard at the city's swimming and diving club. Athlete Hoang Quy Phuoc shared "The team is determined to achieve the highest result at the upcoming tournament to have a favorable start. The coaches create favourable conditions for all swimmers to develop their strengths. In addition to individual events, the team focuses on practicing team events to increase the connection between members".

Currently, the Da Nang swimming team has a group of experienced athletes combined with young strength. Hoang Quy Phuoc and Nguyen Huu Kim Son have left the national team, focusing only on competing in national championships for the Da Nang swimming team. Meanwhile, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc and Nguyen Viet Tuong are promising young swimmers.

According to coach of the Da Nang swimming team Pham Truong Giang, on March 9, the local athletes and coaching staff will compete in Hue. This year's tournament promises to bring many challenges, so the team will try their best to compete for medals.

Deputy Director in charge of the city’s Sports and Gymnastics Athlete Training Centre Tran Do Quang said that swimming has become a strength of the city's high-performance sports.

Besides Hoang Quy Phuoc and Nguyen Huu Kim Son, the local swimming team has young athletes with great potential for future development such as Nguyen Viet Tuong and Tran Van Nguyen Quoc. These athletes are often given the opportunity to participate in national swimming championships. Hopefully, in the upcoming tournament, the team will continue to compete well and achieve its set goals.
