Many sports activities celebrate Da Nang Liberation Day

An array of attractive sports activities and tournaments have been, and will be, held across Da Nang to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the city (March 29, 1975 - March 29, 2025).

Specifically, the Thanh Khe District Table Tennis Tournament 2025 has been organised at the Thien Phuc Table Tennis Club. This year’s tournament has had more than 100 athletes from wards in the district participating.

Accordingly, athletes have competed in events of men's team, women's team, men's individual, women's individual, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Mr. Truong Minh Hoang, a resident of Chinh Gian Ward, shared "I am happy to participate in the tournament and compete with excellent athletes in the district. This is a useful playground, helping me improve my table tennis skills. I win the gold medal in the men's individual event and hope to be selected for the district’s table tennis team to compete in the upcoming municipal-level tournament".

Along with Thanh Khe District, Cam Le District will host many sports activities, including a boat race on March 22 on Cam Le River. So far, 15 teams have registered to participate in the tournament including Hoa An, Hoa Tho Dong, Hoa Phat, Khue Trung and Hoa Tho Tay wards (Cam Le District), Cam Chanh and Trung Luong (Hoa Xuan Ward, Cam Le District), Lien Chieu District, Ngu Hanh Son District, Hai Chau District, Nai Hung 1 (Nai Hien Dong Ward, Son Tra District), Hoa Vang District, Tam Tien Commune (Nui Thanh District, Quang Nam Province), Nam Phuoc Town (Duy Xuyen District, Quang Nam Province) and Dong Hai Cam Thanh (Hoi An City, Quang Nam Province).

According to the organising board, the men's boat racing teams will compete in two events: the peace tournament (4.2km) and the official tournament (7km). Currently, all preparatory works for the forthcoming race have been already completed.

As part of the upcoming Quan The Am (Avalokiteśvara) Festival 2025 slated from March 16 to 19, a traditional boat race will take place on Co Co River. Also, there will be tug of war and stick pushing competitions.

Deputy Director of the Ngu Hanh Son District Culture - Information and Sports Center Huynh Ba Duong noted that the sports tournaments in celebration of the city’s liberation day (March 29) are expected to attract a large number of athletes and fans. This will be an opportunity for people to exchange and play sports, thereby creating a vibrant and attractive atmosphere across the city.

Also on the occasion, a number of the municipal-level sports tournaments have been successfully organised since the beginning of March, including a chess and Chinese chess tournaments for clubs.

On March 16, the PVNA TOUR 2025 tournament will be held at the Tuyen Son Pickleball Centre by the PVNA Pickleball ranking system. This will be the largest-scale Pickleball tournament ever in the Central Highlands region. It is expected to attract the 12 strongest teams with nearly 300 athletes competing in a round-robin format, promising to bring dramatic confrontations.

Additionally, on March 30, the Department of Culture and Sports will organise a traditional boat race on the Han River with the participation of teams representing districts citywide such as Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Son Tra, Ngu Hanh Son, Cam Le, Lien Chieu, and Hoa Vang districts, along with some teams from Quang Nam Province. This will be a useful playground for athletes, people, and fans of water sports.

The organisers hope that the boat race will create an interesting highlight in order to attract tourists to Da Nang, strengthen solidarity and exchange between localities in Quang Nam Province and Da Nang, and promote the development of the physical education and sports movements in the city.

Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Nguyen Trong Thao highlighted the significance of the sports activities taking place on the occasion of the city's Liberation Day in creating a useful and healthy playground for athletes, and creating a vibrant competitive atmosphere in the city.
