Da Nang in my heart
Through their feelings and perspectives of symbols, architectural landmarks, historical events and the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh, children have created 200 artworks showcased at the "Da Nang in my heart" children’s painting exhibition. The event was co-organized the Da Nang Youth Union, the city’s Council of Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, and the Da Nang Children’s Palace.

Nguyen Hai Van, a fifth-grade pupil from the Le Lai Primary School, showed her excitement at winning A Prize in the Primary School category of the painting contest “Da Nang’s Children Proud of Traditions, Stepping Toward the Future” for her crayon artwork titled “Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Da Nang’s Liberation”. Her artwork was then selected for display at the “Da Nang in My Heart” painting exhibition. Van expressed that by admiring Da Nang’s iconic landmarks such as the Han River Bridge, the Dragon Bridge, the Tran Thi Ly Bridge, and the Sun Wheel, she began practicing how to draw them.
When Van heard about the painting competition, she registered and sparked the idea of putting the city’s iconic landmarks into her artwork. She shared that it took nearly a week from brainstorming to drafting the composition and harmonizing the colors to highlight the city’s iconic features. In her final composition, she chose to depict the image of the Dragon Bridge, the Sun Wheel, buildings, and a hot air balloon with the words “I love Da Nang” floating across the sky. And wide, clean streets lined with trees, and playgrounds where cheerful children were playing freely were also featured. “In my eyes, Da Nang is so beautiful from those images and in the future I will strive to study hard and contribute to making the city and the country as a whole brighter and more beautiful” Van happily said.
For Nguyen Quynh Huong, a seventh-grade student at the Tay Son Junior High School, the Five Teachings of President Ho Chi Minh have always served as a guiding principle for her in striving to improve herself and her studies. As a result, when participating in the "Da Nang’s Children Proud of Traditions, Stepping Toward the Future" painting contest, Huong incorporated these teachings into the main composition of her artwork, using colorful markers. Her artwork won A Prize in the Junior High School category and was among the 200 artworks displayed at the "Da Nang in My Heart" children’s painting exhibition.
In addition to highlighting President Ho Chi Minh’s Five Teachings for children, Huong also drew images of children with smiles on their lips, red scarves, perfect scores, and the honorary title “Uncle Ho’s Good Children”. Through her artwork, Huong hopes to convey a message that today’s young generation will continue to practice following Uncle Ho’s teachings, striving to become well-behaved, excellent pupils who contribute positively to society and the country.
Making an impression at the exhibition was the crayon artwork “Declaration of Independence” by Nguyen Thuy Lam, a second-grade pupil in class 2/1 of Be Van Dan Primary School, which won the A prize in the Primary School category. Lam shared that she has a deep love for history, especially the image of President Ho Chi Minh which has left a lasting impression in her heart. That’s why, through the painting contest, she chose to depict the historic moment when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, accompanied by the image of the pink lotus bud, and citizens and children nationwide proudly waving the national flag. Lam expressed that, when the artwork gradually completed the final strokes, Lam suddenly felt a strong sense of pride in being part of the country’s young generation. She also promised herself that, although still young, she would do small things, believing that when repeated every day, these small actions could lead to great accomplishments in the future.
Mr. Nguyen Nhan, Director of Da Nang Children's Palace cum Vice Chairman of the municipal Council of Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organization, said that the 200 artworks displayed at the exhibition are considered diverse in ideas, and clearly represent the city's iconic works as well as the children's future dreams. At the same time, the artworks also honor the Party, President Ho Chi Minh and historical events of the city and the country. The exhibition not only encourages children to express their artistic talents and passion but also serves as a meaningful activity to celebrate the city's major holidays.
