A project improving energy efficiency in the construction sector, as part of a clean energy programme funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), was unveiled in Ha Noi on May 6.

Under the four-year project, worth nearly 3.35 million USD, USAID will work closely with the Ministry of Construction and its departments to put in place the Viet Nam Building Energy Efficiency and Conservation standards, as well as promoting an environmentally-friendly new building.

They will also make fact-finding trips to well-urbanised cities and provinces of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An, exploring how they have addressed greenhouse gas emissions.

The project is expected to fully realise the low gas emission development strategy, known as the Viet Nam National Green Growth Strategy which was adopted by the National Assembly in 2010. It will also help the ministry draft its own action plan on green growth.

Speaking at the Hanoi event, Acting USAID Deputy Director General Jason Foley hailed Viet Nam for being among the trailblazers in launching this strategy.
