The ethnic minority language mobile phone service of Viet Nam’s leargest mobile operator Viettel Group (Viettel), won the silver prize of Asian- Pacific Stevie Awards in the sector of ‘New customer service of the year’, said a representative of Viettel on June 2.

Viettel has designed useful switchboard for ethnic minority customers in languages of Thai, Tay-Nung, Hmong, Dao, Gia Rai , Khmer and Ede people.

In addition, Viettel offers a variety of culture, entertainment and information service with aiming at preserving traditional cultural values of ethnic communities through songs, stories in their mother tongues. Viettel is the first telecommunication firm in Viet Nam supporting free mobile services for ethnic minorities in their own languages.

The ethnic switchboard was operated on January, 2013, which offered entertainment services, such as storytelling, farming guidance and music.

After one year of operation, Viettel has developed programs using ethnic languages like Khmer, Gia Rai , Tay, Nung , Mong , Dao , Thai , Muong , Ba Na , Ede , H ‘ re.

Currently, the ethnic switchboard has serviced around 2, 5 million customers.

Viettel competed in 150 outstanding companies from 22 countries in the region like ZTE, StarHub, Telkom Indonesia, Telekom Malaysia, Cisco, Globe Telecom , Huawei and Samsung , added Michael Gallagher to win the competition.

Stevie Awards was established since 2002, which was considered as one of outstanding awards around the world, aims to praise achievements, contributions of enterprises, individuals in Information Technology sector.
