Award winners honoured
Thirty-nine of 552 entries in the 2013 Viet Nam Science and Technology Innovation Awards were from Da Nang, an increase of 21% compared with the previous contest in 2012. The city’s entrants won one first, one third and one consolation prize. Engineers from the Central Electrical Testing Company brought home a first prize for their work “Research, Design, Manufacturing Multi-power Supply, Remote Control and Monitoring of Onload Tap Changer (OLTC) in Power Transformers”.

Another 10 research works from the city achieved prizes in the 2013 Nationwide Creative Competition for Young Innovators. One of them has also won a silver medal at the Asian Youth Innovation Awards and Expo 2014 in Malaysia.
Meanwhile, a local business was awarded the 2013 Intellectual Property Gold Cup.
Last Friday, the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, recently met and congratulated Vuong Nguyen Thuy Duong and Le Thi Nguyet Hang from Da Nang’s Le Quy Don Senior High School for Gifted Students on their outstanding achievements at International Olympiads earlier this month. Duong won a silver medal at the 55th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) in Cape Town, South Africa, whilst Hang received the same medal at the 25th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) held in Bali, Indonesia. Duong is the only Vietnamese female pupil to win such a medal at the IMO.
Duong and Hang have gained excellent study results for many consecutive academic years, and they have won many outstanding prizes at the annual 30 April Olympiad for Year 10 and 11 students in the southern region, and the National Contest for Excellent Students.
