On Tuesday afternoon, Japan’s Yokohama National University (YNU) presented an Honorary Doctorate degree to the Director of the University of Da Nang (UD), Associate Prof Tran Van Nam.

Addressing the ceremony, the YNU’s head, Prof Suzuki Kunio, said that the award was in recognition of the significant contributions made by Associate Prof Nam over recent years in establishing and promoting bilateral cooperation between the two universities.

Associate Prof Nam was the head of the city’s University of Technology between 2006 and 2010.  Over the period, he was a pioneer in establishing bilateral cooperation and exchanges with the Japanese university in architecture, mechanics, and construction.

Since Associate Prof Nam was appointed as the UD’s Director in 2010, he has made remarkable contributions to further develop the bilateral cooperation.  Most notably, a comprehensive cooperative agreement on learning was signed by the two universities in May 2011.  In June 2011, the YNU’s Centre for Risk Management and Safety Sciences was established at the UD, and the YNU’s first international branch was opened there in June this year.
