The grant, the Canada-Viet Nam Youth Development Scholarship, offers up to five scholarships per year for Vietnamese undergraduates and graduates who have chosen to study in Canada, Richard Bale, Consul General of Canada in Ho Chi Minh City, said in a press release on Tuesday.

Each scholarship is worth C$13,000 (US$10,219) per year and is renewable for up to four years of study at a Canadian university.

Priority fields of study for applicants include economics (accounting/tax), engineering (civil, information technologies), environmental studies, police/correctional services/criminology, and sciences (agricultural, chemistry, food and food processing).

To be considered for the scholarship, candidates must send an application to the Canada-Viet Nam Alumni Association at cvaa.info@gmail.com no later than May 22, 2016.

Eligibility is open to applicants who have already been accepted into a Canadian university and can provide a copy of a letter of acceptance from the university. The application also includes a writing section in which candidates must write an essay – 1,500 words at most – in English or French describing individual commitment and ongoing interest in supporting their community.

Winners will be selected by representatives from the Consulate General of Canada, Dan-D Group, and the Canada-Viet Nam Alumni Association and will be announced on July 1, 2016.

The scholarship is fully funded by the Dan-D Foods Group and is being administered by the Canada-Viet Nam Alumni Association.

Dan-D Foods Group, based in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, was founded in 1989 by Dan On, a Vietnamese-Canadian, and has become a global player in the packaged nuts and dried fruit market with well established brands like Dan-D-PakTM, Dan-D-BulkTM and Dan-D OrganicTM.
