Over recent years, science and technology have played an important role in promoting Da Nang’s socio-economic development, ensuring defence and security, and significantly improving the lives of its residents.  Most notably, science and technology have accelerated technological applications and innovations in all local aspects.

Last year, the municipal Department of Science and Technology focused on renewing its management mechanism for scientific and technological achievements, and enhancing the quality of annual scientific and technological research.

Special attention was paid to boosting the use and transfer of these achievements in the energy and biotechnology sectors, and increasing the efficiency of State management activities in science and technology such as intellectual property, radiation safety, and quality measurement standards.

Mr Huynh Van Ngo, the Department’s Deputy Director, said “Numerous effective measures have been taken to create a favourable legal framework to conduct scientific and technological research.  Many new facilities have been built to increase the advantages of science and technology.  Thanks to this, scientific research and technological transfer activities are being kept on the right track and are gaining initial outstanding achievements”.

In recent years, Da Nang has also concentrated on establishing some scientific and technological research organisations, including a biotechnology centre and a socio-economic development research institute.  Greater efforts have been made to combine scientific research with the city’s socio-economic targets”.

Deputy Director Ngo remarked that in the years ahead his Department will focus on developing qualified employees and necessary technical facilities, as well as appealing for more donations for the city’s science and technology sector.
