Severe shortage of public pre-schools for children
According to the Da Nang Department of Education and Training, the city now has about 178 pre-schools, only 71 of which are public establishments.
The Head of the Hai Chau District Education and Training Office, Mrs Tran Thi Thuy Ha, remarked “There are 16 public and 29 private pre-schools in my district. The enrolment for the 2016 - 2017 academic year at the district’s public pre-schools started on 20 June. However, the district is seeing an increasing number of children wanting public pre-school places and demand cannot be met. Therefore, these establishments are having to accept registrations on a strictly 'first come first served' basis”.

Mrs Ha added, “Local public pre-schools are not allowed to enrol more than the regulated number of children in order to ensure the best care for them. The number allowed in each class ranges between 25 and 35”.
Like Hai Chau District, the other districts across the city are also facing a severe shortage of such schools.
In particular, Ngu Hanh Son District has a total of 15 pre-schools, only 6 of which are public establishments. Altogether these public venues offer 57 classes for 1,690 children, whilst the number of pre-school-aged children is now double the allowed enrolment.
