Hung’s idea for his product came unexpectedly when he visited the city’s Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School for Disabled Children.  He saw the difficulties blind pupils faced when trying to use Braille.

It then took Hung 1 month to create his device which helps blind people to write and calculate more easily.  His product features a writing board, a pen, a letter self-floating module, and a calculator keyboard with 16 buttons.  In addition, the device’s microcontroller helps verify the voice of its user to activate self-floating letters.  The sound of letters, numbers and calculation results are heard through a small loudspeaker.

Apart from its features for writing and calculation, the device allows the user to tell the time and listen to English songs.

Hung spent his scholarship on creating his 1.5 million VND device, and he worked very hard in his university’s laboratory and only ate instant noodles for one week.

Hung’s device is being used on a trial basis at the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School for Disabled Children.  Now he is concentrating his efforts on perfecting his device.
