In July, a total of 150 students from the city’s University of Economics enthusiastically participated in volunteer activities in Quang Nam Province’s Tam Hai Island.  Their trip was in active response to the national ‘Mua He Xanh’ (Green Summer) which is a national volunteer campaign encouraging countrywide students to join efforts to help rural residents.

During their stay in the island, the Da Nang volunteers became actively involved in repairing the local martyrs’ cemetery, collecting garbage on the Ban Than Beach, and building a concrete rural road and a football field for locals.  In addition, they also visited and presented gifts to local social policy families, and organised fascinating entertainment activities for local children.  Moreover, assistance was given to local young government employees to help them enhance their IT knowledge and skills.  Also, one focus was on joining efforts with the local authorities to make the outlines of projects for furthering the development of local tourism and enhancing the livelihoods of local residents.

21-year-old Van Cong Vu, a volunteer in the campaign, happily said that he had vivid unforgettable memories during his trip to the island.  Through such a meaningful trip, he had the opportunity to gain a thorough grasp of the country’s sea and islands which are inseparable ‘blood and flesh’ parts of the Fatherland.  Moreover, the young man full of vitality and enthusiasm also participated in various practical community and social programmes for the benefits of the general public.

Like the city’s University of Economics, many other universities and colleges also organised many practical activities to educate young people about the country’s traditional patriotism and their deep pride in their Fatherland’s sea and islands.  Included are photo exhibitions and musical performances which all highlight the country’s sea and islands.

Nguyen Tran Khanh Trinh, a fourth-year student from the Duy Tan University, said, “My heart is always filled with national patriotism when I hear everlasting songs and see vivid photos of the Fatherland’s sacred sea and islands.

Such meaningful activities mentioned above are good ways to pass the torch of passion on to younger generations in order to help them nurture their national pride and enthusiasm, and encourage them to turn their desire into action to defend and make even greater efforts to the country.
