Organised by the Vietnamese Students’ Association in the RoK (VSAK), the event was in response to Viet Nam Day of Science and Technology (18 May).

According to the organising board, the event aims to further promote scientific studies among Vietnamese young students in the fields of life science, biological medicine, chemistry and chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil and environment engineering, information technology-electronics- telecommunications, physics and materials science.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to the RoK Nguyen Vu Tu said knowledge and expertise acquired during the event will contribute to Viet Nam’s economic development and modernisation.

He said in the next two and three decades, they will serve as a bridge linking Viet Nam and the RoK.

VSAK Chairman Vu Duc Luong said the conference offers a channel connecting Vietnamese young scientists with Korean scientists and managers, thereby facilitating technological transfer between the two countries.

He added that Vietnamese young scientists publish thousands of scientific research works on prestigious international magazines each year such as SCI, SCIE, ISI and some of them play crucial roles in the RoK’s key national projects.

The Vietnamese student community in the RoK is the second largest with over 20,000, nearly 7,000 of them are pursuing tertiary education.

Vice Rector of Sejong University Kim Sueng-ock hailed Vietnam as one of the countries with the highest student graduation in the RoK.

On the occasion, the organising board granted four prizes to four students major in IT, medicine, biology-environment and new materials.
