The survey, released this June, show that in the Asia-Pacific region, Japan and New Zealand were the two countries with the lowest software piracy rate of 16 percent, followed by Australia (18%) and Singapore (27%).
In the region, countries with privacy rates higher than Viet Nam were Bangladesh at 84%, Indonesia and Pakistan at 83%, and Sri Lanka at 77%.
The BSA survey estimated the volume and value of unlicensed software installed on personal computers across more than 110 national and regional economies in 2017.
It also revealed key attitudes and behaviours related to software licensing, intellectual property, and emerging technologies based on a global survey of more than 20,000 respondents.
The results show that, although chief information officers are aware of security risks from unlicensed software, 37% of software installed on personal computers is still unlicensed.
The cost for dealing with malware that is associated with unlicensed software is growing. It can now cost companies worldwide nearly 359 billion USD a year.
