Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee, Huynh Duc Tho, said that the board would help plan strategy and policies to boost information technology (IT) applications to turn Da Nang into a ‘green and smart’ city by 2025.

He said the board will also support grassroots administrations to ensure e-Government infrastructure readiness so as to embrace the digital era throughout the city.

Chairman Tho said the city’s e-Government system, which was launched in 2014, had been used by 225 agencies and 4,000 users. About 50% of public procedures were also posted online.

Da Nang, in co-operation with software giants FPT and VNPT, has begun IT pilot projects in the fields of natural resources and environment, agriculture, tourism, traffic and public security. The projects also include smart connections between air, water, garbage, meteorology, and energy agencies as well as earthquake and tsunami warnings, and data on flooding, erosion, sewage management and bridges.

Da Nang had put 1,200 administration procedures online, including one-stop shops, residential management, public transport and water supervision through the e-Government system, while free wireless internet (WiFi) services offer a maximum of 20,000 connections at public sites.

The city has invested US$10 million on traffic solutions for the Green Smart City project in 2015-16, and will be ready for 4G LTE (Long-Term Evolution) later this year.

The city has also introduced a paperless administration office in Liên Chiểu District to ease the manual procedures for locals and one-stop administrative procedure at the city’s administration centre.
