City pupils win 2 first prizes at National Science and Technology Contest 2019

During his ongoing working trip to Ho Chi Minh City, on behalf of Da Nang’s leaders, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Trung Chinh on Monday presented rewards to the Da Nang team which are competing at the National Science and Technology Contest 2019 for the southern region. The event is taking place at the southern city-based Ton Duc Thang University from 16 to 19 March

The Da Nang team, consist of 12 junior and senior high school pupils, are competing the event with 6 entries.

Two of them have won first prizes and advanced to the presentations about the creative works in English in a bid to win berths at the upcoming Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, in the U.S. in May.

Held for first time in the 2011-2012 academic year with the intention of developing pupils’ capacity and knowledge through conducting their research activities, every year, the annual contest attracts the registrations from a total of more than 10,000 scientific research entries.

Of this, about 500 created by about 900 junior and senior high school pupils in total across the country are selected to compete at the contest.

In the ongoing 2018-2019 school year, the event attracts 481 entries by 896 pupils, 3.4 times higher than the number entered in the contest’s first year, 2011- 2012.

In detail, 252 entries by 487 pupils come from the North, whilst 229 entries by 409 pupils are from the South.
