Viet Nam wins 3 gold medals at 50th International Physics Olympiad
All 5 members of the Vietnamese team participating in the 50th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) in Israel won medals, including 3 gold medals and 2 silvers, the Ministry of Education and Training recently announced.

The gold medal winners are Tran Xuan Tung, a student at Ha Noi-Amsterdam Senior High School, Nguyen Xuan Ung from Ha Noi University of Science’s Senior High School for Gifted Students under Viet Nam National University and Nguyen Khanh Linh from Thanh Hoa Province's Lam Son Senior High School.
The silver medal winners are Le Viet Hoang from Bien Hoa Senior High school for Gifted Students in Ha Nam Province and Trinh Duy Hieu from Bac Giang Senior High school for Gifted Students in the namesake northern province. All the medal winners are 12th graders.
IPhO is an annual competition in physics for senior high school students which involves individual theoretical and experimental contests.
The 50th IPhO was organised and supported by the Ministry of Education of Israel and the School of Physics and Astronomy at Tel Aviv University from 7 to 15 July with participation of 360 students from 78 countries and territories.
With the 5 medals, Viet Nam ranked fourth behind China and South Korea – both earning 5 gold medals – and Russia with 4 gold medals.
Last year, the Vietnamese team won 2 gold medals, 2 silvers and 1 bronze.
