Minister Nha said the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training has agreed to grant 500 billion VND (around 21 million USD) from the national budget for the implementation of the project during the year 2020. Of this figure, 400 billion VND (approximately 17 million USD) will be spent on site clearance work, whilst the remainder will be used to build some necessary construction works.

However, he noted that main obstacles to the implementation of this project are site clearance and compensation work.

Therefore, Mr Nha urged the Da Nang authorities to accelerate the site clearance progress in a prompt manner so that the project can be carried out soon.

Chairman Tho affirmed that the municipal government would take action to ensure that the project get underway as soon as possible.

Mr Tho also asked the Ministry of Education and Training to work with the Da Nang government and the University of Da Nang in a bid to speed up the site clearance and resettlement work, as well as handle the project-related procedures, thereby creating a basis for disbursing the capital allocated for the project.

Officially approved by the Prime Minister in 1997, the Da Nang University Village project, which was scheduled to encompass 110ha in Da Nang’s Ngu Hanh Son District and 190ha in Quang Nam Province’s Dien Ban District. The total cost of the construction work is expected to be 8,620 billion VND. However, to date no construction work has been started at the project site.
