Prime Minister-approved 300ha Da Nang University project planning map released
The Vietnamese Prime Minister has already approved the detailed 1:2,000 zoning planning map for the 300ha large-scale Da Nang University project, which has been suspended for more than 2 decades.
The approval aims to concretise the previous adjustments to master plan of the project, and implement the development strategy of the University of Da Nang to 2025, with a vision to 2035, heading forwards developing this tertiary institution into one of Viet Nam’s three leading training hubs which meet international standards.
Officially approved by the Prime Minister in 1997, the much-awaited project was scheduled to encompass 110ha in Hoa Quy Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang, plus 190ha in Dien Ngoc Ward, Dien Ban District, Quang Nam Province.
The project is designated as a national and international-level multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral education-training and research hub.
The Da Nang University project will be financed by governments of Viet Nam and Da Nang, ODA loans, investment under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) form, legal revenues generated by the University of Da Nang, and other legitimate financial sources in line with the national laws.
Under the deployment plans, this project is expected to cater for 60,000 students, 3,364 teaching and managing staffers, and it features urban areas accommodating as many as 5,000 people.
The project will house the universities of Education, Technology and Sciences, Economics, Medical Technology and Pharmacy, Foreign Languages and Studies, and Technology and Education, plus the Viet Nam - Korea University of Information Technology and Communications, and the Da Nang International University.
In addition to educational and training areas, the project will be designed with students’ dormitories, libraries, accommodations for the project’s staff, scientific research facilities, incubators, sports and defence education facilities, gymnasiums, squares, parks, areas for commercial services and exhibitions, plus other auxiliary places.
The already-approved planning also stipulates specific resettlement steps and the implementation of priority sub-projects within the framework of the project from 2025 until 2035.
In detail, by 2025, site clearance work for the project will have been completed in Da Nang and on about 52ha in Quang Nam Province to build such key work items as technical infrastructure, conference halls, defense and security education centres, lecture halls used by some member schools under the University of Da Nang, and the Techopole hi-tech park.
Between 2026 and 2030, focus will be on implementing site clearance and compensation for the project’s 108ha remaining land in Quang Nam Province, developing technical infrastructure, and setting up training areas for the University of Economics.
The 2031 – 2035 period will concentrate on continuing technical infrastructure development, building students’ dormitories and some remaining work items for other already-planned tertiary establishments in Quang Nam Province.
In particular, the Vietnamese Prime Minister has asked the University of Da Nang to partner with other functional bodies to make the detailed 1:500 zoning planning map for the project, a positive sign showing work is highly promised to commence on this project after a long delay.
