The visited schools were Nguyen Van Cu Junior High School, Nguyen Thai Hoc Primary School, both in An Hai Dong Ward, and Nguyen Phan Vinh and Tran Quoc Toan primary schools, Rang Dong Kindergarten, all located in Tho Quang Ward, Son Tra District.

These aforementioned schools are witnessing their facilities downgrading due to the ravage of time and the negative impact of daily activities by some households living nearby.

The Son Tra District authorities have therefore made proposals to the municipal government on the upgrade and expansion of these educational facilities.

Chairman Triet asked the district authorities to give suggestions on the allocation of land fund, as well as detailed planning and zoning for the educational development projects.

“Schools are one of the institutions to which voters always pay special attention, besides parks, gardens in residential areas and community houses. The investment in educational facilities, especially the degraded, is very necessary, not only meets the learning needs, but also facilitates them to meet national standards”, affirmed Chairman Triet.

There are five criteria for national-standard schools which concern the number of classes and students, active socio-political organisations; qualified staff and managers; education quality (determined by students’ academic performance); infrastructure; and community involvement.

There are two levels of national-standard schools. The first level requires schools to ensure comprehensive quality. The second, higher level is given to schools that create conditions for students to match the achievements of their counterparts in advanced countries in the region and in the world.
