Right after receiving her bachelor's degree in nursing in early 2021, Nguyen Thi Hang returned to Japan’s Yokohama City to work.
When she was a final-year student at the Da Nang-based Dong A University, Hang had a period of time to work in a hospital in Japan as an intern under the cooperation programme signed between her university and Yokohama City.
In addition to joining the internship, she got the N2 Certificate of Japanese language after the first exam in Japan, added Hang.
“The one-year internship in Japan was a great opportunity for me to experience the local language as well as learn about the local culture. Also, I learned more about the professional working methods of the Japanese” noted Hang.
Hang’s salary during the internship period helped support her family and pay for her tuition fees. In order to accumulate more experience and other soft skills, when she returned to school to prepare for the graduation exam, Hang worked as a teaching assistant for Japanese lecturers in nursing training sessions for students at her school.
Similarly, student Le Thi Hau of the Dong A University was arranged to stay in the hotel's dormitory during her internship at a hotel in Japan.
“I work as a full-time employee of the hotel and receive a monthly living allowance. More importantly, we are trained in a sense of discipline and working attitude through strict implementation of the hotel's rules and regulations" Hau said.
Along with the trend of university internationalization, higher education institutions have begun to exchange their students, thereby creating more career opportunities for them.
Learning in a professional environment is the most ideal model for early formation of professional working skills. In addition to soft skills, international integration skills for students are also paid more attention by higher education institutions.
Many students have the opportunity to join internships abroad, facilitating them to quickly adapt to the international labour market.
Most recently, three students of the Vietnamese-French Training Programmes of excellent Engineers (PFIEV) at the University of Science and Technology - the University of Da Nang worked as interns at the France-headquartered La SOGET Company specialising in logistics software.
Previously, in 2021, the University's 2 students joined internships at the La SOGET Company with a monthly salary of VND15 million. All students were paid salary during internships and Capstone Project.
Sending students to Japan under the internship programme is the goal of many higher education institutions, aiming to improving the quality of training and creating jobs for graduates.
The University of Technical Education - the University of Da Nang has just signed a three-way memorandum of understanding between the university and two Japanese companies, namely Irie People and YM Connection. The purpose is to facilitate the sending of students to Japan to work as interns.
Mr. Noda Yuchiro, a representative of the YM Connection Company, expressed his hope that in the coming time, he will be able to recruit graduates from Da Nang universities who have N4 Certificates of Japanese language to work in Japan.
Since 2017, the Dong A University has started sending its students to join internships at partner companies in Japan.
In 2022, the school has sent 300-400 students studying different majors to work in Japan. The number is expected to increase to 1,500 - 2,000 in the years ahead.
