A project on improving the capacity of education-training, governance and research for the Viet Nam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) for the 2022-2027 period kick-started in Da Nang on Monday.

The project costs around US$8.5 million, including US$7.7 million in non-refundable aid provided by the Government of the Republic of Korea (RoK) via the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Previously, South Korea had provided official development assistance (ODA) for VKU to build infrastructure, lecture halls and dormitories, as well as invest in laboratories, training programmes and curricula.

The purpose of the project is to develop VKU into the first digital university in Central Viet Nam with breakthrough curricula and a contingent of qualified lecturers. It is expected to become a hub for start-ups and innovation as well as cultural and academic exchange with the RoK and the world as a whole.

Within the framework of the event, VKU and KOICA inaugurated a research and innovation space and the Digital Science and Technology Institute (eSTI), including studios, smart classrooms and marker space, aiming to improve the capacity of education-training, governance and research for VKU.

On the occasion, VKU held a ceremony to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Viet Nam-RoK diplomatic ties in the Central Highlands region with a series of culinary, cultural and educational exchanges. Included are the Viet Nam - Korea friendly football tournament, performances of Taekwondo and traditional Samulnori musical instruments, experiencing Hanbok costumes, and an exhibition featuring photos, posters and beautiful handwriting in Korean.
