Most recently, the Centre for and Self-Sufficient Study Abroad and Employment Research and Counseling under the University of Da Nang has offered a training course on start-up and career skills for students living below and near the city's poverty threshold or those who have just escaped from poverty.

Nguyen Dang Dong Rang, a student of the Viet Nam - Korea Information Technology and Communications University (VKU), said that the training course helped him understand about himself, sustainable development goals, idea-building process, basic techniques in creative thinking, and product development plans.

With such courses, students are provided with background knowledge, and arouse their passion for creativity and entrepreneurship. And, after graduation, student have an active and creative spirit in their work, not necessarily the need to start an own business, Rang said.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Minh Quan, Director of the Centre, his centre has provided training courses for more than 120 students. The funding of the courses comes from the National Target Programme on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in the 2021-2025 period.

“Along with the knowledge learned in classrooms, through these free training programmes, we want to help disadvantaged students build their will and dream of starting a business. The centre will continue to act as a bridge to organise more training programmes for needy students in the near future” Mr. Quan noted.

In addition to training courses, some universities have now introduced the Innovation and Entrepreneurship subject into teaching.

Dr. Nguyen Quang Nhu Quynh, who is a lecturer for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship subject, a consultant for startup projects, and co-founder of the Open Agriculture Platform (OAP), shared subjects related to innovation and entrepreneurship are taught at the Da Nang University of Science and Technology.

“The training programme is the foundation to help students acquire basic start-up competencies. Then, they will continue to participate in startup support activities, and startup competitions. After that, only students who are passionate and capable enough to continue to have the opportunity to participate in incubation programmes”, Dr. Nhu Quynh said.

Moreover, schools have focused on appealing for financial support, investing in infrastructure, and connecting with businesses to give wings to start-up activities of students.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Cao Tho, Rector of the University of Technology and Education, said that aside from financial support for students' start-up projects from its scientific research funds, the university also connected with Vintech City Startup Investment Fund and Vi2W Project to support its startup club and invention space to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship among students.
