Da Nang's information technology (IT) potential and ways to attract Australian enterprises to invest in the city’s IT industry were put on the spotlight at a seminar in Da Nang on Thursday.

The event was jointly organised by the municipal Investment Promotion and Support Board, the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Viet Nam (AusCham) and the Enouvo Information Technology Development Co. Ltd., a AusCham member.

During the event, participants discussed what Da Nang should to do to attract Australian businesses to invest in its information technology and communications industry; key industries in the IT field that Da Nang wishes to attract from Australian investors; and issues related to the development of IT human resources in the city in the coming time.

Mr. Le Hoang Phuc, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Investment Promotion and Support Board, said that as of late 2022, Da Nang had attracted 33 Australian-invested projects with a registered capital of US$15.76 million in total.

The municipal government had signed cooperation agreements with two states and two cities of Australia, namely South Australia, Queensland, Newcastle and Gold Coast.

These cooperation agreements had made an important contribution to state-level diplomacy. Among the five priority areas for the development of the city, the IT, electronics and telecommunications industries associated with the digital economy have a very important position.

Da Nang boasts many favourable conditions for the development of the IT industry. The city has been taking the lead in the readiness index for the application and development of information technology nationwide for more than 10 years. Most recently, Da Nang has issued many key solutions to promote the development of IT and digital transformation.

Mr. Simon Fraser, CEO of Auscham informed that Auscham has organised many activities in Viet Nam. Auscham is one of five effective commercial offices in Viet Nam with more than 720 member businesses, and 230 businesses who are acting as sponsors.

Compared to other localities, Da Nang has great potential for developing IT and investment opportunities in the service sector. Da Nang has a good quality workforce and developed socio-economic fields.

He, therefore, highlighted that the seminar provided the good opportunity for Da Nang and Australian businesses to connect and strengthen cooperation in the future. He affirmed that Auscham will play an important role in connecting Australian businesses to Viet Nam in general and Da Nang in particular.
