A group of students from the Faculty of Food, the city-based Dong A University, won the second prize at the university-level science research contest held in mid-May for the research project on processing coconut jam and purple noodles using extracts of Camellia plants grown by organic methods.

The project leader Diep Thi Minh Ngan said that her team came up with the project from impacts on human and environmental health due to farming using pesticides, as well as the use of chemical food dyes. In the coming time, the team will continue to study the preservation mode in order to keep the quality of coconut jam and noodles for a longer time.

It is known that this is one of the 25 winning topics at the 9th Dong A University-hosted science research contest for students.

Mr. Luong Minh Sam, Chairman of the Council of the Dong A University, said that university-level prize winners will receive financial support from the university to complete and continue to participate in the municipal-level competition.

Most recently, the University of Science and Technology - the University of Da Nang has awarded the most 11 outstanding projects at the 2nd scientific research contest for students in the 2022-2023 academic year. Most of the projects have been highly practical such as “MRI synthesis using deep learning models”, and “Research on the process and recipe for mixing spices sprinkled with rice from anchovies”.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tao Quang Bang, the Head of the Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation of the University of Science and Technology, said that the annual contest contributed to meeting the university’s objectives in training mission and scientific research. It helps students apply the knowledge they have learned to solve practical problems, and promote their ability to work independently, in groups, and to form self-study and self-research.

According to Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology Duong Hoang Van Ban, the unit always stands side-by-side with universities, junior colleges, intermediate schools and related units to promote scientific research activities among students. This helps create a source of ideas with quality, applicability and feasibility to introduce and connect with business incubators and investors in the city, thereby spreading the spirit of scientific research and innovative startup among students.
