Da Nang yields positive results in study encouragement activities
There has been positive changes in study and talent encouragement activities, as well as the establishment of a learning society across Da Nang, thereby fueling emulation spirit in local communities.
Over the past five years, the Da Nang Study Encouragement Association has worked with many local departments and agencies, and philanthropists to launch long-term and short-term scholarship programs, including ‘Nurturing Dreams’, ‘Each organization, each individual associated with a study encouragement address’, the ‘Huynh Thuc Khang Talent Encouragement Award’, the ‘Outstanding Students Award’, the ‘Poor Studious Students Award’, and the ‘Poor Studious Co Tu Ethnic Minority Students Award”. These scholarship programs have provided timely support and encouragement to students striving for achieving academic success.
From 2018 to the first half of 2023, the Study Encouragement Associations at all levels across the city have called for cash donation from organizations, and individuals to grant more than 360,000 scholarships and awards totaling over VND 185 billion.
Furthermore, the municipal Study Encouragement Association has taken effective measures to mobilize resources to raise funds for study encouragement activities, develop study models, and launch emulation movements that all have surpassed the year’s targets. By December 2023, the municipal Study Encouragement Association has 220,938 members out of the city's 1,103,928 residents, up by 4.01% compared to 2022.
Despite the challenges in raising scholarship funds, district and ward-level associations have taken effective measures to provide more than VND 36 billion in funding for study and talent encouragement activities, reaching VND 32,643 per resident, surpassing the target by VND 643 per resident.
Besides, associations have successfully launched emulation movements to build a learning society across five fundamental models: learning family, learning clan, learning community at village and residential group levels, learning unit at ward and communal levels, and learning citizen. Such a movement has encouraged every citizen, family, clan, and community to study, and it has become one of the profound mass movements, and spread widely and deeply .
These models have produced impressive results with learning family achieving 81.82% or surpassed the target by 11.82%, learning clan with 73.57% or an increase of 8.57%, learning community with 88.57% or up 13.57%, learning unit with 97.19% or up 17.19, and learning citizen in group 1 with 57.28% or up 17.28%, that in group 2 with 53.1% or up 13.1%, that in group 3 with 60.08% or up 0.08%.
To further promote study and talent encouragement activities, along with the establishment of a learning society, the Associations at all levels will continue to implement their programs in line with decisions and guidance from the Vietnamese Prime Minister, the Da Nang government and the municipal Fatherland Front Committee for the 2021-2030 period. The intention is to develop Da Nang into a ‘Learning City’, and contribute to improving intellectual standards, and developing talents in a bid to drive the growth of the city, and the country as a whole.
