Innovation methods of teaching and learning literature in senior high schools which has been adopted since 2022 by the education sector nationwide have forced teachers and students to change their teaching and learning methods in a bid to help improve students’ literary reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, as well perceive literary texts. However, in reality, the society does not pay enough attention to book readings along with literary appreciation and creation. Many students, their parents, and even teachers still think that natural subjects are more important than social studies in school. Intelligence quotient (IQ) is overrated by many people while emotional intelligence (EQ) is underrated by some people.
Ms. Phung Thi Loan, the CEO of the FPT Senior High School stressed the need for parents to pay more attention to developing soft skills for their children, including communication, relationship-building, and aesthetic perception as these skills are essential for digital citizens in the current social context. Therefore, it is high time for parents to create a cultural foundation for their children and foster values in them in order to successfully promote personal development in them, in which, literature and language development play an important role in completing these skills.
The workshop program ‘Recoloring Literature’ focused on teaching students on how to perceive literary texts and write sentences with correct grammar, as well as develop ideas for writing. The event also provided the opportunity for students to participate in composition, criticism, and harmony stations where they received guidance from their teachers and speakers to perfect their literary essays.
According to Ms. Phung Thi Loan, many interesting contents were discussed during the workshop by the students. Included were how to develop ideas for writing, how to study literature effectively, how to fully appreciate a literary work, or how to become a professional writer.
At the end of the workshop, each student wrote a personal literary essay with the guidance of the speakers, and all their essays will be posted on the school's social networking sites in order to select the best ones for awards. It can be said that the workshop has helped students learn about how to write the perfect essay.
Talking about the theme ‘Recoloring the Literature’ of the workshop, leaders of the FPT Senior High School said that the goal of the teachers and students in this workshop is to work together to nurture and raise love of literature.
"With the support of the Literature Club, we hope that the workshop is considered a push to develop inner strength and build mental strength for students. Along with that, the school will find the best writing talent in an effort to promote their talent. In the coming time, the school will work with the Da Nang Writers' Association in order to connect students of some local literature classes with local writers and poets," Ms. Loan added.
