The affirmation was made by municipal People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh at the seminar entitled "Solutions for developing human resources in science and technology to meet the requirements of building and developing the city in the coming time" held in the city on Thursday.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Vo Cong Tri, Chairman of the city’s Union of Science and Technology Associations, remarked that the seminar was a practical activity to celebrate the Viet Nam Science and Technology Day (May 18, 1963 - May 18, 2024). It helped raise public awareness of the important position and role of intellectuals and their responsibilities to the country; as well as encourage the city's science and technology staff to improve their quality, capacity, and qualifications to contribute to the development of the country and the city.

Recognizing the importance and role of intellectuals, in recent times, the city has issued many guidelines and policies on training, attracting, using, appreciating, and honouring to promote creative capacity of intellectuals.

However, in the new context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the city needs to have strong breakthroughs in many fields, especially developing science and technology human resources to meet new development requirements.

He also underlined the necessity to promote international integration and cooperation, attracting Vietnamese scientists abroad, and foreign experts, to participate in domestic scientific activities.

The city currently has 12 universities, some institutes and training faculties affiliated with the University of Da Nang, research institutes, and training facilities outside the city.

Among them, the University of Da Nang has the largest intellectual team with more than 2,100 people with university degrees or higher, including more than 110 professors, associate professors, and 450 doctorate holders.

Also, the Duy Tan University has more than 1,000 intellectuals, including more than 50 associate professors and 170 doctorate holders.

The Da Nang Union of Science and Technology Associations has 32 member associations with nearly 160,000 members participating in social consulting, criticism and assessment activities.

The number of officials, cadres, civil servants and public employees in Da Nang possessing university degrees or higher accounts for nearly 80%, of which more than 60 have doctorate holders.

At the same time, the number of intellectuals is also widely distributed in businesses (more than 143,000 people), the city's military force (more than 300 people), the city's border guard force (more than 200 people), and the police force city (about 2,500 people).

There are also experts who are Vietnamese intellectuals abroad who are having cooperative activities with agencies and units in Da Nang.

For his part, Chairman Chinh emphasised that the science and technology industry always has a stable and sustainable contribution, participating in the development of all other industries and fields, thereby contributing to the overall socio-economic development of the city.

In the coming time, the municipal authorities will continue to direct local sectors to promote propaganda about the role of science and technology, creating conditions for the science and technology industry to develop, especially enhancing the role of leaders in the use of science and technology intellectual human resources.

Priority will be given to allocating resources for science and technology, researching many policies to develop science and technology, perfecting the policy system for human resources for scientific research, especially giving priority to focusing on key economic sectors.

The University of Da Nang and other universities citywide will continue to further improve human resource training and increase infrastructure investment for scientific research and innovation activities, thereby providing high-quality human resources for the city's economic and social development.
