This activity significantly contributes to raising awareness among Youth Union members and young people about love for homeland and country, and arousing their pride and responsibility to protect the country’s sacred sovereignty over its sea and islands.
In early August, the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Students’ Association organised the programme "Students with the national sea and islands" in Tho Chau Island Commune, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province.
Its aim is to foster love for homeland and country, raise awareness of protecting national sovereignty among Vietnamese students, and widely publicise the policies and guidelines of the Party and State on sea and islands. In addition, it created an environment for participating students to exchange, study and practice social skills, and strive to become "Students with 5 Goods".
Among the 170 outstanding students and Youth Union officials, Mai Dang Nhat Hung, a student of the University of Science and Education - the University of Da Nang, was very happy and proud to join the programme. These experiences gave him more motivation to strive to study and devote his youth to creating good values for himself and contributing to the construction of his homeland and country, he added.
Similarly, the Youth Union organisation of the University of Economics - the University of Da Nang in coordination with the municipal Youth Union recently organised an exhibition featuring documents, images and thematic reports on "Youth with the homeland's sea and islands" in 2024.
Accordingly, the Hoang Sa Exhibition House selected 40 frames of documents and images with the following themes: the history of establishing Viet Nam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago; fights to protect the contry’s sovereignty over its sea and islands in the current period; policies and guidelines of the Party and State on the struggle to protect the national sovereignty; and Da Nang youth with the homeland's sea and islands.
After participating in the exhibition, student Vo Hoang Lam from the University of Economics shared “The propaganda session provided me with a lot of specific, detailed, and authentic information about the national sovereignty over its sea and islands. This then aroused national pride and special love for the homeland, and raised the responsibility for the cause of fighting to protect the sacred sovereignty over sea and islands among young people”.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Xuan Quynh, Secretary of the Youth Union organisation of the University of Economics, said that the programme drew a large number of students, contributing to raising awareness and importance of the sea and islands, and fostering love for the sovereignty of the fatherland among students.
On September 20, the municipal Department of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the Da Nang University, the Youth Union, and the People's Committee of Hoang Sa District to organise a conference to provide helpful information about the sea and islands for nearly 500 students and young people citywide.
All participants at the event were updated with the current situation in the East Sea in recent times; support work for helping fishermen keep going on their job and promote their roles in protecting the country's sea and island fishermen; the significance of Hoang Sa exhibition house; and propaganda activities to protect sovereignty over the Hoang Sa Archipelago.
According to Mr. Le Cong Hung, Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Youth Union cum Chairman of the Students’ Association, the unit has always laid an emphasis on widely publicising Vietnamese legal documents and international law on sea and islands, and the legal bases affirming Viet Nam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos among the city's youth generation. This has greatly contributed to effectively combating the distorted and destructive arguments of hostile forces; as well as helping the young generation build determination and will to excel in studying, training, and being ready to firmly protect the national sovereignty over the sea and islands.
