Pupils in Da Nang have won numerous IT awards, with two highly regarded competitions being the National Young Informatics Contest and the National Excellent Pupils' Competition.

Nguyen Van Minh (front, centre) won first place in the National Young Informatics Contest, Category B, in August 2024.

This success is due to the pupils' efforts, alongside the discovery and nurturing by teachers. From Grade 4, Nguyen Van Minh was recognised by an IT teacher at Huynh Ngoc Hue Primary School, Thanh Khe District, and began participating in city-level IT competitions, achieving early success. Over the years, Minh’s passion for IT grew.

In the 2023-2024 academic year, while in Grade 9 at the Nguyen Khuyen Junior and Senior High School, Minh continued to excel in IT competitions at city, regional, and national levels, winning first place in the Grade 9 IT competition, a gold medal in the Central IT Olympiad, and first place in both the regional and national Young Informatics Contest, Category B. For the 2024-2025 academic year, he secured admission to the IT-specialised class at Le Quy Don Senior High School for the Gifted with the highest score.

Minh credits his success to both his teachers' guidance and self-study, noting that participating in competitions provided valuable knowledge and skills.

Similarly, in the 2023-2024 academic year, Nguyen Phu Nhan, a 10th-grade pupil, Le Quy Don Senior High School for the Gifted, won first place in the national IT competition for high school pupils. Phu Nhan was one of the youngest participants to win and was later selected for the team to compete in the International Olympiad in Informatics.

"The city's IT team had 10 participants in the national competition, with 8 winning awards, including 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 1 consolation prize. Being a 10th-grade pupil and winning is a source of pride for both me and the team," said Phu Nhan.

According to Mr. Do Van Nho, Head of the IT department at Le Quy Don Senior High School for the Gifted, pupils in Da Nang have consistently achieved high results in prestigious competitions like the National Young Informatics Contest. Over the past decade, the city's young IT team has won first place in six editions of the contest. Notably, at the 2023 Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad, Le Ngoc Bao Anh, a 12th-grade pupil, won a bronze medal.

Having spent over 20 years nurturing pupils passionate about IT, Mr. Do Van Nho believes that Da Nang has many advantages in IT competitions, including strong support from schools and parents, and the city’s role as a hub for major events. The Mid-Central Highlands IT Olympiad, organised by the Viet Nam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology, the Viet Nam Informatics Association, and Le Quy Don Senior High School for the Gifted, is one of the key platforms.

"With the current tech boom, IT teachers are constantly improving their skills. We are not just teachers but also collaborators with pupils, as some of them have excellent skills and bold ideas. To further promote IT, it's crucial to focus on teacher development and pupil nurturing. Teachers should also be recognised for their efforts in competitions like the Young Informatics Contest," said Mr. Nho.
