However, some educational institutions are lacking teaching and learning equipment according to the 2018 general education programme, requiring schools to be flexible and adaptable.

Proactively taking solutions

In the 2024-2025 school year, all grades from 1 -12 will adopt the 2018 General Education Programme. However, the implementation of the programme still has many limitations when it is not possible to fully equip the minimum teaching equipment for each grade.

Faced with this situation, schools in the city flexibly adapt and proactively overcome with many solutions in order to be able to organise teaching and learning activities according to the orientation of the programme.

Mr. Cap Phi Ha, Principal of the Tran Quoc Tuan Junior High School based in Hoa Vang District said that the school takes advantage of teaching equipment from the 2006 programme because the 2018 general education programme inherits and promotes the positive points of the previous programme. In addition, teachers increase the application of information technology, using simulation software or virtual experiments to teach students.

In addition, the school mobilises resources from benefactors and businesses to purchase equipment for teaching and learning. In the 2024-2025 school year, all classrooms in the school have been equipped with televisions and interactive boards. At the same time, the school has a English classroom with modern teaching equipment, contributing to building a smart and positive learning environment.

Meanwhile, the Tran Nhan Tong Primary School in Cam Le District utilises STEM products such as pictures, photos, tools, and specimens to meet teaching needs.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Yen, Principal of the school, said that the teaching equipment according to the 2018 general education programme for grade 1 is sufficient but not enough for grades 2 and 3, and is lacking for grades 4 and 5.

To temporarily overcome this situation, the school regularly encourages teachers and pupils to make their own learning materials. This activity is enthusiastically supported and assisted by parents. Along with that, the school exploits available facilities to organise extracurricular activities, teaching in the direction of developing students' capacity and qualities, effectively implementing and closely following the innovative direction of the program. "The school's teachers strive to apply technology to build lively and creative electronic lectures, making up for the lack of teaching equipment, and ensuring the amount of knowledge for pupils" Ms. Yen shared.

Equipping schools step by step

The lack of teaching equipment has a significant impact on teaching and learning according to the new general education textbook programme. Therefore, localities are accelerating the progress of providing teaching equipment to schools.

Deputy Head of the Office of Education and Training of Hoa Vang District Phan Huu Dung said that the Management Board of the district’s Construction Investment Projects has consulted on the submission on the results of selecting a contractor to appraise the price of equipment for primary and junior high schools in phase 1.

After the decision to approve the results of selecting a contractor to appraise the price, the contract will be negotiated and the equipment will be appraised. Also, the adjusted technical economic report will be approved and the next steps will be taken. While waiting for the 2018 general education program equipment, schools will proactively use their own funds to purchase shared equipment, review existing equipment for use, and apply digital equipment to teach pupils.

In November 2024, the district also submitted to the municipal People's Committee for approval of the investment policy for the project to purchase equipment for primary and junior high schools in phase 2.

Similarly, Cam Le, Hai Chau, and Son Tra districts are also speeding up the bidding, purchasing, and provision of teaching equipment so that teaching and learning in schools can meet the goal of maximising the capacity of facilities and learners.

According to Director of the Da Nang Department of Education and Training Le Thi Bich Thuan, in the past time, the Department and the district’s Office of Education and Training have simultaneously deployed training contents according to the modules of the 2018 general education programme.

“The city has made significant investments in school facilities, teaching equipment, and information technology infrastructure. With the support and deep concern of the city leaders, departments, and the team of managers and teachers, the education and training sector has made encouraging progress in meeting the requirements of innovation in the 2018 general education programme. However, to achieve comprehensive effectiveness, it is necessary to continue investing in training and improving facilities to create more favorable conditions for teachers and pupils” said Ms. Thuan.
