After more than 2 years of launching, the "Building Green Schools" movement in primary schools has created a strong shift in building green, clean and beautiful landscapes, and safe and friendly playgrounds for pupils during breaks and collective activities.

Stepping into the Lam Quang Thu Primary School in Hoa Phong Commune, Hoa Vang District, visitors will be impressed by a cool green space with many types of trees such as banyan, royal Poinciana and milk flower. In particular, the corridor in front of the classrooms is decorated with many ornamental plants and small baskets of green trees and flowers, creating a friendly and close-to-nature feeling.

According to the school leaders, the school pays special attention to building a "Green School" model by planting trees, decorating flower beds, and making herbal medicine gardens. In addition, since the beginning of the academic year, the board of directors of the school has directed classes to implement "nature corners". The abovementioned activities have been widely supported by parents and enthusiastically participated by pupils.

Also in Hoa Vang District, the "Environmental Drumbeat" model implemented at the Do Thuc Tinh Junior High School has created a strong spread.

Accordingly, the model is implemented every week at the end of class activities, for about 15 minutes. After the command of 6 drumbeats, all staff, teachers, employees and students start general cleaning inside and outside the school grounds, classrooms and offices according to specific assigned positions.

After 15 minutes, the cleaning will end with a 1-beat drum signal. The homeroom teachers of each class will evaluate and comment on the cleaning activities right in the cleaning area. If it is not clean or not guaranteed, they will continue to clean. The school monitors the cleaning results of the classes to evaluate the weekly competition.

Meanwhile, shools in Thanh Khe District pay great attention to building "Green Schools". In addition to increasing the planting of trees in the schoolyard, the corridors of the classrooms are covered with green flower pots and ornamental plants. Pupils are assigned to take care of the trees.

The entire yards of Le Van Tam Primary School and Do Dang Tuyen Junior High School, both located in Thanh Khe District are planted with trees. Window frames in classrooms are decorated with hanging flower baskets. These not only provide shade and comfort for pupils but also contribute significantly to educating and raising awareness of creating natural landscapes and friendly school environments, protecting the living environment, building a green lifestyle among pupils.

As part of the "Building Green School" movement, pupils at the Nguyen Trai Senior High School based in Lien Chieu District have coming up with ideas for projects to recycle waste into school supplies and decorations in the school; and plant and care for trees in classroom and school yards.

Pupil Vo Hoang Thanh Tu from the Nguyen Trai Senior High School shared that she wants to turn discarded paper and scrap paper into useful items that can be sold to raise funds for social charity activities.

The idea of multiplying the “kind life cycles of trash" model was proposed by Thanh Tu after she and some of her classmates participated in a training session on building a “Green School” that is safe, clean, resilient and adaptable to climate change, organised by the municipal Youth Union in early December.

At the training session, Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Youth Union Nguyen Thi Anh Thao shared that the training course provided pupils with sufficient knowledge and skills so that they can build and implement their own ideas and solutions to build a safe, green, clean, beautiful school that is resilient and adaptable to climate change.

“This will be an exciting journey for young people to discover their own abilities and demonstrate the role of the young generation in coming up with innovative, sustainable, smart and adaptable solutions to current climate change,” Deputy Secretary of the municipal Youth Union Nguyen Thi Anh Thao added.

Director of the municipal Department of Education and Training Le Thi Bich Thuan assessed that the "Green School" model as well as environmental protection models in schools not only change the appearance of the school but also create a healthy educational environment, and raise pupils' awareness of preserving and protecting the environment, thereby contributing to improving the quality of comprehensive education.

“The living environment has a positive impact on the formation of human personality. In education, this is even more important because when going to school, children not only acquire knowledge and skills but also develop personality and life skills. In the coming time, the Department's leaders will continue to direct schools to upgrade facilities, embellish environmental landscapes, and build "green - clean - beautiful - safe school" model, Ms. Thuan shared more.
