Da Nang eyes more infrastructure development to promote English learning at school
In order to create positive changes in the quality of foreign language teaching and learning, schools have innovated teaching methods, strengthened facilities and teaching equipment, aiming to gradually make English the second language in schools.

Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW of the Politburo on continuing to implement Resolution No. 29-NQ/TW of the Party Central Committee (11th tenure) on fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training, meeting the needs of industrialization and modernization in the context of a socialist-oriented market economy and international integration stated the task of “focusing on improving the foreign language skills of students, gradually making English the second language in schools”.
To effectively implement Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW, at the end of 2024, the Vietnamese Government approved the project on international integration in education and training until 2030, with the goal of improving the quality of education and training high-quality human resources to serve the goal of socio-economic development. In particular, this project sets the target of striving for 100% of high school students to achieve foreign language proficiency according to the regulations of the general education programme for foreign language 1; gradually making English the second language in schools.
Implementing the Vietnamese Government’s orientation, the Da Nang education and training sector has directed units and schools to improve the quality of teaching and learning foreign languages, especially English; actively participate in international education quality assessment programs for primary and high school education and training; coordinate to organise many foreign language speaking competitions for high school students, contributing to creating a playground for students, promoting international integration in education.
Schools across the city has focused on improving the quality of English teaching and learning is of interest, with priority given to investment in human resources, facilities, and learning equipment. From 2023, the Hoa Vang District Department of Education and Training has piloted modern classrooms and libraries in a number of schools in the area with a total investment of about 1.76 billion VND.
The Tran Quoc Tuan Secondary School has invested in a smart classroom for learning English with many modern facilities. Teachers can use software, learning applications, videos, and digital documents to illustrate lessons vividly, which helps increase students’ interest and learning efficiency.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Giang, a English teacher at the Tran Quoc Tuan Secondary School, said: “The application of digital technology in teaching and learning in general, English in particular, helps students be more proactive in learning. Instead of just sitting and listening to the teacher’s lecture, students actively participate in interactive activities with the screen, proactively exploring new knowledge through diverse resources. By interacting through technological devices, students are more interested in learning and remember vocabulary better”.
In the 2024 - 2025 school year, the Nguyen Luong Bang Secondary School has invested in a number of modern classrooms from the budget and socialized sources, including STEM education practice rooms, digital classrooms and digital libraries. Notably, digital classrooms are invested from private investment with modern facilities and equipment, from interactive screens, tablets, to audio-visual equipment.
Mr. Huynh Duy Linh, the Principal of the school, said that digital classrooms are not simply about bringing technology into teaching, but also opening up a new learning space, where students can maximize their creativity and ability to think and debate. Modern equipment is very helpful for teachers, from lesson planning to interaction with students during class. In particular, interactive, audio-visual equipment greatly supports students in learning English.
Currently, all teachers at the school have been trained, familiarized with the equipment, and grasped the methods and ways to design lessons suitable for digital classrooms. For the high school level, to improve the quality of English teaching and learning, schools prioritise the application of information technology in teaching and learning. In particular, extracurricular activities such as the Golden Bell contest, English speaking, and club activities are regularly organised to improve students’ speaking and communication skills as well as create motivation and interest for them when studying this subject.
The Son Tra High School’s policy in improving the quality of English teaching is to fully equip facilities, equipment, and reference materials for both teachers and students. Currently, the school has 5/5 standard subject rooms, including the Foreign Language Room equipped with modern equipment, serving well the teaching and learning of English.
The school has also just developed a strategy for building and developing the Son Tra High School in the 2025 - 2030 period. In particular, there is a goal of fully equipping teaching equipment; building and exploiting and effectively using subject classrooms, striving to have the school's facilities meet national standards by 2026, innovating teaching and learning methods in the direction of enhancing international integration.
