Contributing to development of Da Nang
Dr. Nguyen Hoang Huong Duyen (born in 1980 in Hoa Chau Commune, Hoa Vang District), is a heritage officer, and she has been working at the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture since 2003.
After graduating from the University of Foreign Language Studies - the University of Da Nang, she worked at the museum as a tour guide. Then, she decided to study abroad in a bid to develop herself and improve her professional knowledge to contribute to her homeland.
In 2012, Dr. Nguyen Hoang Huong Duyen completed her master's degree in Museum Studies at the New York University, the U.S. In 2015, she received her second master's degree in Southeast Asian Art History and Archaeology at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) - the University of London, the UK. She successfully defended her doctoral programme in 2023 at that school. During her studying abroad, the Da Nang girl had the opportunity to intern at major museums, as well as connect and work with international experts, curators, and researchers, and gain more experience in museum work.
"I am grateful to the Museum of Cham Sculpture where my career and dreams were inspired. Therefore, I want to bring what I have learned to serve the museum, contributing to improving the quality of expertise and developing the museum to new heights. The museum is not just a static display place but a vibrant space with high-quality thematic exhibitions, rich educational programmes, and diverse and attractive products and services" Ms. Duyen shared.
In addition to her main job, she cherishes a dream of opening a free family library in her hometown of Hoa Chau Commune. The library will offer a diverse range of books in the fields of history, art, archaeology and culture. For her, spreading cultural knowledge is also contributing to the development of the city.
Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Khuong Commune is hometown of Dr. Nguyen Son Tung, 33, who is now Deputy Head of Training Department at the University of Economics - the University of Da Nang.
Before returning to Viet Nam in 2023, he spent 8 years in the U.S. to complete his bachelor's and master's degrees at the San Jose State University, followed by 4 years of postgraduate study at the University of Liège in Belgium.
Dr. Nguyen Son Tung has published more than 20 scientific works in prestigious international journals and many proceedings of prestigious specialised conferences at home and abroad. His research projects have focused on supply chain management, sustainable logistics and startups with the desire to find practical solutions to support businesses and the community.
Aside from research and teaching, he has actively got involved in community activities. Most recently, he has become a member of the Hoa Vang Career Guidance Club which targets to support students in career orientation, and help them understand their own abilities and choose a learning path that is suitable for the development trend of society, thereby contributing to building high-quality human resources for the locality and the city.
Dr. Nguyen Son Tung hoped that his hometown will develop more comprehensively, especially in the fields of education, economy and urban infrastructure.
He also expressesd his desire that the locality will continue to invest heavily in the quality of teaching and career guidance for students. "If there are appropriate support and orientation policies, I believe that education in Hoa Vang will continue to create a dynamic, creative young generation ready to contribute to the development of the hometown" he stated .
Intellectuals are the homeland's internal strength
Mr. Tung and Ms. Duyen are two of the 56 PhDs from Hoa Vang District. Born in a land rich in the tradition of learning, they have devoted their hearts to the development of the city.
At the ceremony in early 2025 to honour new PhDs who are children of Hoa Vang District and have made many contributions to the construction and development of their homeland, the leaders of the district are expecting contributions on a new scale and level of the team of intellectuals, typically PhDs and scientists.
To achieve the goal of building an ecological urban area rich in identity and becoming a town in the shortest time, in addition to the external driving force from mechanisms and policies, the most important thing for Hoa Vang District is to unleash the source of endogenous strength. Therefore, the district really needs ideas from intellectuals, typically the team of doctors, who are ready to contribute to the development of the locality.
