Connecting with international lecturers

In early January 2025, representatives of the specialised faculties of Finance and Banking of the University of Economics - the University of Da Nang had a working session with Dr. Ariel Viale from the US Palm Beach Atlantic University who is an expert of the Fulbright Scholar Programme.

Dr. Ariel Viale underlined the necessity to promote research cooperation in dynamic and strong economic sectors and fields among universities, and groups of experts, and lecturers in Asia in general, and Viet Nam and Da Nang in particular.

He informed that accessing and sharing highly reliable international academic databases was the basis for scientists and lecturers from universities with similar characteristics to promote their strengths in scientific research cooperation, and improving the quality of international publications in prestigious journals.

Similarly, at the recent academic seminar organised by the Faculty of Accounting of the University of Economics, Prof. Louis P. Le Guyader from the Southeastern Louisiana University, the U.S. shared the latest research and practical experience in the field of accounting. Thanks to that, lecturers of the university approached academic trends and practical applications in the world.

The attending lecturers noted that the practical experiences shared by faculty from international universities provided valuable new perspectives. This input helped the teaching staff to update and effectively incorporate these insights into both the teaching process and scientific research. As a result, it strengthened the educational cooperation between the two institutions and enhanced the quality of teaching and research at the school.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dang Tung Lam, the Head of the Faculty of Finance at the University of Economics, stated that the faculty aimed to enhance academic and research capabilities for its lecturers. To achieve this, they plan to invite prestigious experts from partner universities to speak at academic seminars involving lecturers, students, and trainees in relevant fields. Additionally, the faculty intends to collaborate on research projects focused on practical topics.

Since early 2025, the University of Education and Science, like the University of Economics, has organised various activities to connect with leading professors from prestigious universities in France and South Korea. These initiatives have aimed to facilitate the exchange of academic knowledge with lecturers and students from the faculties of Mathematics, Informatics, and Physics.

The academic exchange session held by the Faculty of Physics at the University of Education and Science featured discussions with lecturers from Soongsil University in South Korea. The session focused on contemporary topics relevant to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, including research on multiphase electromagnetic materials, luminescence of rare earth ions, and thin film manufacturing technology. Additionally, there was an emphasis on the enhanced integration of quantum emitters and their applications in quantum cryptography, measurement, and computation.

Lecturers from the Faculty of Physics indicated that sharing advanced technological knowledge in this field has provided them with new perspectives and ideas for research orientation. This collaborative effort helps them stay updated with trends aimed at optimizing quantum network technology and enhancing its application efficiency.

Promoting cooperation and research

The University of Da Nang not only invites lecturers from international universities to engage and interact with member schools, but it also provides opportunities for its own lecturers to participate in academic exchange programmes and serve as visiting lecturers at international institutions.

As teaching and researching on an exchange programme at Japan’s Mie University, Associate Professor, Dr. Vo Thang Nguyen, a lecturer of the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Education and Science stated that participating in teaching and researching in a new working environment helps her learn many things from Japanese professors and colleagues, not only about academic content and professional activities, but also about how to organize a research group.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen, regular activities will contribute to building a research group with better organisation and research results and this model can be applied to the research group when returning to the University of Education and Science.

Most recently, two more lecturers at the University of Education and Science have joined an academic exchange programme, taking on roles as visiting scholars at universities in the U.S. Specifically, Dr. Bui Thi Thanh Dieu, the Head of the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Educational Psychology, participated in the visiting scholar programme at the Texas State University, focusing on social sciences and humanities. Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Dang Mau, the Head of the Department of Biology and Environment, took part in research at the Marine Biology Laboratory at the University of Chicago.

The activity is part of the Partnership for Higher Education Reform (PHER) Project between Viet Nam and the U.S., in which the University of Da Nang is one of the top 3 universities in Viet Nam that are qualified and selected to participate.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Van Minh, Rector of the University of Education and Science, recent years have witnessed the increasing number of lecturers working as inviting lectures at international universities, especially in basic sciences. This is also one of the advantages of the university in promoting international cooperation, moving towards university internationalisation.
