Specifically, developing the UD into a national university with a research orientation, focusing on training talents, high quality and postgraduate training associated with scientific research and innovation, implementing national strategic tasks; prioritising the fields of basic science, engineering, technology and some other key fields... This is the legal basis, an important premise of great significance for the UD to continue to focus on implementing the Development Strategy by 2030, vision towards 2045; striving to realize the aspiration of becoming a national university according to the policies of the Party and the Vietnamese Government.
According to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, the Director of the UD, in order to fulfill its core role in training high-quality human resources, especially in the context of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, in addition to the efforts exerted by generations of lecturers and students, the UD really needs the support and assistance from the Vietnamese Government, the Da Nang administration and localities nationwide.
Concentrated investment, along with creating an autonomous mechanism and financial mechanism like national universities will help the UD make a qualitative breakthrough in its mission of contributing to the development of Viet Nam’s central region and the whole country.
The spacious, modern Da Nang University Urban Area, worthy of being one of the three major university centres in Viet Nam, on par with the region and the world, will be a place to attract scientists and excellent students from all over the country to study, research, especially talents.
With a regard to the network of higher education institutions in the regions, the Vietnamese Government's planning identifies Da Nang as a centre where higher education institutions need to be upgraded, focusing on such fields as science, engineering, technology, pedagogy, medicine, finance, aquaculture, tourism and arts.
The planning also states the formation of large higher education centres on the basis of upgrading higher education institutions, developing the Da Nang University Urban Area in Hoa Quy - Dien Ngoc (covering parts of Da Nang and neighbouring Quang Nam Province); form the Da Nang urban area with the UD acting as the core university, linking higher education institutions in the central region and expanding the development space of higher education institutions located in the inner city to new planning areas.
When it comes to a network of higher education institutions training in STEM fields, the plan identifies “priority for investment in developing higher education institutions with strengths in computers and IT, electrical engineering, electronics and communications in 4 major urban areas and the South Central region, serving the development of software, semiconductor, electronics, telecommunications, energy and other economic sectors”.
Important political bases such as Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW, Conclusion No. 79-KL/TW of the Politburo and legal bases such as Decision No. 452/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister are very important premises for the UD to strive to realise its great aspiration of developing itself into a national university.
“For Da Nang, when there is a national university, it will truly become the “nucleus” that gathers schools and institutes as a cluster, making Da Nang truly ‘the university city”, “the innovative, smart city,”, “the city of events”, “ the education - healthcare center” contributing to the successful implementation of the Party's policies and resolutions”, said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu.
