At the recent release of the 2022 Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) by the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the Provincial Green Index (PGI) was introduced for the first time to support provinces in improving environmental management quality and promoting sustainable growth. Accordingly, Da Nang ranks fifth with an index of 16.68.

A locality is considered to have good environmental management quality when it makes efforts to prevent and reduce environmental pollution and negative impacts of climate change (component index 1); implements regulations and reasonable measures to ensure compliance with environmental laws without creating too much burden for businesses (component index 2); provides comprehensive guidance and promotion of green practices and emphasizes green procurement (component index 3); finally, encourages the "greening" of production and business models through specific support policies and programmes (component index 4).
