As part of the Da Nang Beach Tourism Season 2015, a cycle race to conquer the Son Tra Peninsula took place on Thursday morning.  Organised by the Management Board of the Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourism Beaches, the event saw the participation of 150 professional and amateur riders from across the country.

The race aimed to convey a message of environmental protection to local residents and visitors, as well as to advertise eco-tourism on the peninsula to develop it into a must-visit local place for domestic and foreign visitors.

The race route was Eastern Sea Park - Truong Sa Street - Montgomerie Links Golf Club - Hoang Sa Street - Le Duc Tho Street - Yet Kieu Street – the Vong Canh Hills of the Son Tra Peninsula.  The 46km route had 6km of ascent.

Despite the hot weather, the event drew a great deal of attention from locals and visitors, many even driving after the riders to cheer them on.  The spectators were enchanted with the exciting and thrilling atmosphere of the race.

Rider Bui Van Viet from Da Nang’s Trong Tin cycle club won the above 45 age group, whilst Nguyen Duc Tai from Da Lat City’s Thong Xanh club finished first in the 36-45 age group and Nguyen Thang from Dak Lak Province’s Ban Me Xanh club was the winner of the 18-35 age group.

Here are some photos, taken by reporter Thu Ha, which reflect the race’s exciting atmosphere.
