The hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19), accompanied by the joint high-speed vessel USNS Millinocket (JHSV-3), docked at Da Nang’s Tien Sa Port on Monday at the start of their Pacific Partnership 2015 mission in the city.
The USNS Mercy, which was launched on 20 July 1985 and commissioned on 8 November 1986, is 272.6m long and 32.3m wide. It has a displacement of 69,350 tons and has a helipad suitable for all types of helicopter.
The hospital ship, which will stay in the port until 28 August, is one of the US Navy’s huge mobile hospitals. It has 1,000 beds and 12 operating theatres equipped with advanced equipment. It is capable of performing general surgery, orthopaedic operations and ribcage, urological, dental, gynaecological and obstetric surgery.
