Remarkable changes in the city
Da Nang was named Tourane by French troops during the 62 years of the French colonial period from 1888 to 1950. Then, in March 1965, American troops landed in the city and set up a large military complex here. They left the city 10 years later.
Since then, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, the city has successfully recovered from its periods under French and American control.
Da Nang was recognised as a centrally governed city in 1997. The city has seen remarkable changes over the past 40 years and the city has gradually affirmed its image as a modern, civilised, attractive and safe locality.
To mark the 70th anniversary of Viet Nam’s August Revolution (19 August) and its National Day (2 September), Danang Today offers our readers some impressive photos of our city today.
