Photo essay about a second mother to premature babies in Viet Nam

Taking care of premature babies at the Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital has always been a special job.

Every year, the hospital’s Neonatal Department treats more than 400 premature births.

Aside from modern techniques and family care, the love and devotion of doctors and nurses in the department plays an important role in improving the health of prematurely-born babies.

It is almost as if the babies had second mothers.

Below are a series of photos by Huynh Nam Dong showing how the doctors and nurses in the department do their special job.

These photos were one of the entries to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper's year-long competition themed “Viet Nam – Country – People” concluding in October last year.
