On Monday, a total of 900 young people from across Da Nang left their homes for the first stage of the country’s military service programme this year. In addition, 210 more were sent to serve at the municipal police force for a short term.
Municipal People’s Committee (PC) Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, and PC Vice Chairmen Dang Viet Dung, Ho Ky Minh, Nguyen Ngoc Tuan and Tran Van Mien, along with Fatherland Front Committee Chairwoman Dang Thi Kim Lien, presented flowers to the new recruits at their departure points across the city.
At the departure point in Hoa Vang District, Chairman Tho and the Deputy Commander cum Chief of Staff of the municipal Military Zone 5, Major General Ngo Quy Duc, attended the ceremony.
All of the new recruits across the city could not hide their excitement as they had the chance to serve the city, and the nation as a whole. They also expressed their determination to fulfil their assigned tasks well.
Under the Vietnamese military service rules, all Vietnamese male citizens aged between 18 and 25 are eligible for the 2-year military service programme if they meet country’s physical and mental health standards. Those in such age range but are studying at universities and colleges nationwide will have to fulfil their their obligations until 27. In addition, Vietnamese female citizens might register for this military service programme in the spirit of volunteering.
